Coming home from school or practice kids are always hungry. In between when they last ate and the next big meal of the day their hunger can seem insatiable. Fortunately, there are ways you can hold their hunger off with some delightful healthy snacks that taste incredible.

1. Celery, Peanut Butter and Raisins

This snack, which I am pretty sure most of us have heard of, is incredibly yummy. The celery provides the perfect crunch, the peanut butter provides the delectable saltiness and the raisins provide a little bit of sweetness. The peanut butter is a good source of protein for your little ones, too.

It’s not a very heavy snack and if the celery is chilled this snack actually works perfectly for a hot day.

2. Fun Fruit and Cheese

Pick out any fruit your young ones prefer and find some cheese that works well with the fruit. The cheese also has to be tolerable to your kiddies, so be sure you select a brand and type that you know they will enjoy.

Cut the fruit into any shape or size, and the cheese cut with cookie cutters is a ton of fun. Usually, when kids have something besides the food in front of them to distract them they have the most success with actually eating.

3. Rice Cake Peanut Butter and Jelly

The classic, but with a twist! Rice cakes on their own make ideal snacks, even before factoring in all of the different varieties too, from chocolate to white cheddar and everything in between.

Pick a flavor of rice cakes that you think personally works best for a peanut butter and jelly. Spread that peanut butter (protein, remember?) on thick and douse it with some jelly. Yum!

The rice cakes give this snack an extra oomph and the crunch seems to make the snack more satisfying.

4. Hummus and Carrots

Hummus comes in so many flavors and contains so many nutrients – it’s made with chickpeas, which contain fiber and protein. There are a bunch of flavors of hummus, too, but red pepper hummus blows me away. Whipping up a homemade batch of hummus is not too difficult if you’d rather prepare it yourself than buy it.

Garlic hummus and regular hummus are close runners up, and pairing any of these flavors with carrots or mini bell peppers (if you have adventurous offspring!) is ingenious.

Of course, hummus pairs well with pretzels and pita chips, but those are not AS healthy of options.

5. Sweet Potato Fries

We all know that kids love fries, but regular potato French fries are not very healthy. Sweet potato is an excellent alternative and a source of beta-carotene.

Sweet potato fries sell in frozen form often, but making your own sweet potato fries is not too arduous. Simply cut up a sweet potato and preheat the oven to 450 degrees, but you can make it hotter if you need them to be crispier.

Coat all of the sliced up sweet potato with olive oil and put them in the oven. After they are browned and crispy, simply salt to taste and serve.

6. Banana Bread

Delicious, filling and healthy, too, banana bread melts in your mouth. Pack a ton of bananas in there and the kids will get their fill of potassium for the day!

7. Popcorn

Popcorn comes in some super tasty varieties at the store, but be sure and avoid the crazy buttery kinds. Those kinds of popcorn completely defeat the health benefits that popcorn can offer.

Buy some seasoning mixes and you could try putting those on your popcorn to spice it up instead.

8. Frozen grapes

Freeze some grapes! They legitimately taste like candy when they are frozen. They can also be dipped into some yogurt (French vanilla flavored, or something else sweet) for an extra layer of sweetness.

9. Whole wheat waffles

Whole wheat waffles taste awesome for breakfast or for a snack. Just be sure and spread peanut butter, Nutella, or fruit spread on them instead of syrup. If you load the snack up with syrup then you rob the meal of its health benefits.

10. Oatmeal with Fruit

Instant oatmeal with added fruit will surely fill up any kid for snack time. Hold them off till their next big meal. Stir in some peanut butter for an even more filling snack jam-packed with protein.

It is always important to fend off hunger and get some good nutrients in a snack. These ten snacks for kids hit the mark!

That’s a healthy list of snacks. I am sure I would love the hummus/carrots combo, although hummus with pita chips would definitely be more welcome 😉
The Frozen Grapes option seems interesting too. Have never tried it, so will freeze some today and check it out.
