Your wireless expenses does not stop with the purchase of your smart phone; especially if it was for free and was provided by a postpaid network carrier as you will be paying for the phone throughout the duration of the contract, plus a mandatory service. Thus, you may want to follow these tips on how to save from your wireless services.

1. Consider going unlimited
For many, unlimited plans seem to cost a lot. But it would be smart to gauge your phone usage and check how much you are using per month. Some surveys report that at the end of the previous year, 2011, the average talk time cost per month was $50 and the average data cost was $40. Together, this makes an average of $90 per month, which is less or equal to what you will spend for a monthly unlimited plan. Sprint offers truly unlimited data and talk time for $90 while T-Mobile offers unlimited data (throttled), text and talk time with 10 MB of high speed data for only $80.

2. Consider prepaid plans
If you have discovered that you are a very light user or a heavy phone user but are prepared to sacrifice some smart phone capabilities for savings of up to almost 50% of what you are paying for postpaid network subscriptions. If you are a light user, going for pay as you go with small increments and long service days like Tracfone will be ideal and if you are a heavy user, going for Straight Talk, Virgin Mobile, Revol, or Cricket is a great way to get very affordable unlimited talk and data for as low as $45 a month.

The disadvantage with prepaid networks is that you will have to buy your own phone However, you can make up for this through the potential savings that you will be getting and the phones’ prices can be subsidized by using Straight Talk promo codes.

I went to straight talk and went with the android phone but all their android phones are on boost mobile towers which aren’t that great in our area. My phone works at home and work and at bills games but some towns in between I get no service at all. Im on Straight talks $45 unlimited everything plan and love it though! Tony is on the $30 plan but he doesn’t have a smart phone so he doesnt need the unlimited data part.
