How many times have you wanted to get your cat a cat tower/condo but decided against it because it seemed too small or unstable?  Often cat furniture I see in stores seems to be designed for kittens or very petite cats.  I often worry about the stability of such units – could my 14lb cat climb up and down it without the product moving?

I was thrilled when I saw that CozyCatFurniture.com was looking for bloggers to review a few of their different models.  I was immediately drawn to the Mini Wood Cat Scratch Furniture for Large Cats.

This wood cat scratch furniture is made for large cats with only one thing in mind – endless feline enjoyment. The cradles will give your cats places to hide and play and the sisal post is for extensive scratching.

This product retails for $99.99 which I understand is a little pricey for most, but honestly, you get what you pay for.  This tower is handmade in the USA and comes fully assembled.  I have a taller cat tower from a major brand that I paid a lot more for, and It took us forever to put together!  Sure the box was a little heavy but as soon as UPS dropped it off on my front steps I just dragged it into my living room, cut the tape and slid the tower out!

Cat Tower for Large Breed CatsI really like that the base of this tower is slightly larger than the topmost level – it is very secure and even with all the cats playing on it, it doesn’t move.   Speaking of the top-level, Harley and Oliver, both over 12lbs,  can lay on it, and have plenty of extra room without falling into the cutout.  Jewel is quite petite so I knew she would have no trouble. She seems to prefer the upper cat cradle anyway.

Jewel and Oliver Jewel playing on Wood Cat Tree for Large Cats made by CozyCatFurniture.comJewel loves scratching the Sisal rope on the one post and Oliver loves scratching the carpet on the other posts.  Oliver has a thing for carpet and refuses to use any type of scratcher we have bought him unless it has carpet on it.  I don’t mind cleaning up little shreds of carpet as long as it comes from cat furniture and not my carpet!

Oliver playing on lower levels of Wood Cat Scratch Furniture for Large Cats made by CozyCatFurniture.comOliver is our most active cat, and he LOVES using his nails to climb up the posts of this tower!  We always find his toys on the different levels and he gets a little territorial if another cat is on “his” tower.

A cat tower is a must for any multiple cat home.  It gives the cats a vertical space to get away from each other when they need a break, as well as providing a great spot for them to stretch their claws out.  Scratching is a necessary cat behavior, but doesn’t have to be tolerated on your furniture!  We sprinkle catnip on our cat towers every so often to entice the cats, and the cats always come running and begin scratching – Jewel on the sisal, and Oliver on the carpeted posts. Multi-leveled cat towers allow more than one cat to remain in close proximity to one another while still maintaining some degree of a pecking order.  Cats often like to be up high to watch what is going on in the household, look for prey, or to feel secure. If you don’t give them a spot to lay up high, they will find one on their own and it might be a spot you don’t want them – like countertops, or mantels!

UPDATE from March 2020:

This post has survived a move and even 6 years later is still as sturdy as ever. Now we have it in front of our big bay window! Oliver has shredded a lot of the carpet and sisal off the vertical posts but that doesn’t deter from his enjoyment of it at all. We have been rotating the tree around so a different post is “out” every so often so they are all wearing pretty evenly.

Some day I would LOVE to get a bigger more complex tree for them.  I really think they would love The Castle Cat Tree House. It is pictured below.

I received one or more of the products mentioned above for free using Tomoson.com. Regardless, I only recommend products or services I use personally and believe will be good for my readers.
