This post was originally published on May 24, 2014.  I wanted to provide an update on our favorite products. New Comments are in BOLD

I always find it interesting to see what products other cat owners love.  Reading what other pet owners had to say prompted quite a few of the items on my list!

Armarkat 74″ Cat Tree

We have had this in the Ivory color for about 2 years 8 years! now and it STILL gets used daily. Oliver loves to race up and down it and often climbs the vertical sisal poles instead of just walking up to the next level.  The other cats like to sit on it to watch the birds outside. It survived moving from an apartment into our house and is still steady!

Dogit Go Slow Anti-Gulping Bowl Blue – 73702, Extra Small EXO331-2

The extra small size is the perfect size for cats who have a tendency to inhale their food to fast. We own two of these, because Oliver and Harley have a tendency to eat to fast.  Still use both of these.

1257571424_260Fizzion Pet Stain & Odor Remover

If you have ever had a pet urinate outside of the litter box you know how hard it is to completely remove the odor. Most products just cover the odor up.  Fizzion breaks down the odor-causing molecules in urine.  We have found this also works great on pet vomit.

We can’t seem to find this available anymore. It looks like Jackson Galaxy and Fizzion joined forces to make Jackson Galaxy: EX Stain & Odor Eliminator – Pet Urine Remover Powered By Fizzion.  It is more expensive than other products, so we have not tried it yet.  We have tried a lot of Pet Urine removers and the best seems to be the ones from the Nature’s Miracle brand.  Oliver has had some urinary issues over the years which has caused him to have accidents, Plus whenever there is change, or any stress in his life he has litter box issues. We currently have 3 Natures Miracle products in our home: Nature’s Miracle Hard Floor Cleaner, Nature’s Miracle Laundry Stain and Odor Additive and Nature’s Miracle Pet Stain and Odor Remover Foam Aerosol Spray.

Oliver LOVES batting these around but they do tend to get lost under the stove and refrigerator!  We eventually started buying them from craft stores because they were so much cheaper there than in pet stores!  Oliver still loves these and gets excited whenever we give him new ones to play with.  My mother-in-law recently adopted a young cat who LOVES pom pom’s too!

1161037533_260True Compact Air Purifier

We own two of these in white.  We keep one in the basement near the litter box to control any odor and dust.  It does a great job controlling odor, and I am always amazed at how much stuff is stuck in the filter when we clean it out! The other we keep in the living room.   Oliver seems to love sticking his face right next to wear the clean air is blowing out.  When we moved to the house these air purifiers weren’t big enough to handle the larger sized rooms.  We haven’t tried any replacements yet

Sure they are technically to keep children out, but they also do a great job of keeping nosey cats out of the cabinet you keep their food and treats in.  As much as Oliver and Harley try, they cannot get these locks off.  When we bought our house, it had much more cabinet space so we were able to keep the cat food in the upper cabinets that the cats couldn’t easily access, so we don’t need to use these anymore.

24706329_260Comfort Zone Pet Diffuser with Feliway

These diffusers have helped calm things down tremendously in our home.  A few times a year, usually over the winter, Jewel gets very sassy in general.  Most of her aggression is taken out on Oliver.  We keep one of these plugged in under our kitchen table, and another in the basement right at the bottom of the stairs.  The jewel seems more relaxed, and Oliver seems more confident.  Two winters ago we took in my Mother-In-Laws cat Patches, when she had to go to rehab after a  knee replacement. Before she came to our house I put a few Feliway diffusers around our house to keep our cats calm.  Luckily we had a pet gate (more about that later) to keep the cats all separated until they all became friendly with each other.  The Feliway helped keep things calm with 4 cats in the house.  Right before Patches went back to live with her mom, Jewel crossed the rainbow bridge due to kidney disease.  Oliver would cry out looking for her, and I believe the Feliway helped keep him calm.  We didn’t know how Patches would react going back home after almost a year so we installed some Feliway diffusers at her house to help her ease back into things.

776346110_260Litter-Lifter Kitty Litter Scoop for Cats

What makes this litter scoop unique is the fact that the blades are triangle-shaped, so the clean litter falls right through, without you having to shake it. I am shocked at how many manufacturers still have flat blades on their scoops.  These scoops are also rather large compared to other brands.  Bigger scoops mean less scooping! When my original Litter Lifter got a small crack, I Immediately ordered another one.  The first one still works great but I like having multiple scoops!

New Things on the List for 2020

Nature’s Miracle Disposable Litter Box, 2-in-1 Disposable Cat Litter Box

Our traditional litter boxes were so scratched and getting really hard to clean.  Oliver was having some litter box issues – he would sniff the sides of each box before going off to pee somewhere else.  My coworker told me he buys these for his cat and then just throws the whole box out at the end of the month.  I buy the 3 pack and have it set to deliver monthly through Amazon Subscribe and Save.  No more scrubbing or soaking the litter box to get clean!  The boxes are made from recycled paper and land-fill safe!  Pro-Tip – stick with the Jumbo size unless you have kittens. The regular size is pretty small!

MidWest Wood Wire Mesh Pet Gate

We originally got this to keep the cats out of the kitchen when we were cooking or eating, but It came in really handy when we took in Patches. It is 44 Inches Tall – much taller than regular gates and it can expand from 29″ to 50″ wide. Our kitchen entryway is exactly 29″ which is apparently smaller than standard doorways.  Most gates on the market couldn’t go that small.  We currently use this gate to keep the cats out of the fan-cave when we aren’t in there. They are more than welcome to come in when we are there.  We finished the fan-cave just in time for this last NFL season, complete with a custom-built bar, and shelves for liquor. There are also tons of memorabilia on the walls. Given our cat’s tendency to climb and knock things over – they can only be in there with supervision.

Catit Design Senses Fountain

This was the first fountain we tried that our cats would actually drink from. It is very quiet and since the water is always circulating it doesn’t get slimy like other fountains. We actually purchased a second one when Patches was with us and sent her home with it because she loved it so much.  We usually purchase the generic filters and it seems to work just fine.  We did have to get a replacement pump – but after reading amazon reviews we found a generic one that was much cheaper and worked just as well.

The cat tree and glitter balls make me want to get a cat – the other things not so much 🙂 Hubby insists he is allergic to fluffy cats (the only kind I like) so there’s no chance anyway!

I don’t have cats anymore. I now have a dog and we go thru alot of toys. Most of them come from The Dollar Store so pretty affordable. It’s a lucky cat that gets a Cat Tree.

Thanks! Im checking out your review now. We have a big black light that came with whatever Urine Stain Remover we got at the pet store. Your right, it makes you want to tear out your rugs because it shows you every little thing!
