GasCheck – The First Ultrasonic Level Indicator (#FreeProductReceived)

I can’t tell you how many times we are packing the truck the night before a Buffalo Bills game and we wonder if we have enough propane to cook food all day.  Other Bills fans are great, and are known for being friendly enough to let you use their tank, or just cook on their grill, but it’s not something we want to rely on. We either bring an extra small tank, or just go refill our big propane tank if the tank is feeling particularly light.

Now I have a cool gadget that lets me know exactly how high the propane level is inside the tank.  It is called a GasCheck and it was sent to me, for free, by Moscap Engineering for review purposes. GasCheck is about the size of a pan, and is an ultrasonice device that measures the liquid level of propane in a tank. Using the same technology that doctors use for ultrasounds, the GasCheck shoots an electronic beam into a propane tank. A portion of this signal is returned and allows the GasCheck to determine whether or not there is liquid propane at that level of the tank.If there is no liquid, the GasCheck lights up with a red LED light, If there is propane at that level, it lights up with a green LED light.

I will admit, it is a little tricky to get to work at first.  The end you don’t put against the tank is actually a clip so you could hang it from your pocket.  I had read that another reviewer found this clip to be a little loose, and she found if she held the clip in, as she pressed the GasCheck firmly against the tank, that she could get an accurate reading.  My clip didn’t seem loose at all, but I did notice once I pressed the GasCheck against the tank, by also pressing the clip in, I was able to get an accurate reading.   You also have to make sure that you are holding the GasCheck at a 90 degree angle against the tank, in an area that is free from rust.
