Emery boards can not be effectively cleaned or sanitized. Metal nail files can rust and often have bacteria and fungus on them. Pumice nail files are semi porous which is a breading ground for bacteria. You wouldn’t want to transfer that bacteria onto your nails would you? Glass nail fles are non-porous an can be easily cleaned by simply running under warm water. If you want, you can also clean a glass nail file with rubbing alcohol or hydrogen perozide.
Another advantage to glass nail files is the effect they have on a person’s nails. Nail files made of steel typically cause the nail to chip or to crack because they are too rough on the nail. I really love these nail files! They feel really gentle on my nails, and there is hardly any noise at all when filing my nails. I loved how after filing my nails, the shavings just wiped off the nail file. When I used emery boards there was really no way to get the filings off. I feel these are a great alternative for people who are concerned about the germs that can be left behind on other types of nail files.

Thanks for mentioning that the glass nail files feel gentle on your nails and hardly make noise when you’re filing. I generally can’t file my nails because the noise unsettles me so much, but my nails definitely need to be better maintained and more shaped. Hopefully I can find a great Czech glass nail file!
