How To Choose A Pet That Suits Your Lifestyle

How To Choose A Pet That Suits Your Lifestyle

When it comes down to finding that special companion, you face down the question of which pet would suit your personality and lifestyle. The two most popular choices one faces are dogs and cats. With so many breeds to choose from that have their own unique personalities, it can be quite the task to settle on a dog or a cat that will bring that special love and companionship that complements you both. Here are some personality and lifestyle aspects to consider.

For the active lifestyle.

If you are a busy person that likes to be outside whether it’s taking long walks, running, throwing a ball around, maybe a dog would be a great choice for you. There are many breeds of dogs that really appreciate being outdoors and as active as you. Even if you are a homebody, but love the outdoors and taking it easy, there are dogs that relish in being couch buddies, as long as they can go for their walks, have some chew toys and enjoy a backyard.

The quiet ones.

Staying cozy at home by a fire curled up in your favorite chair reading a good book, maybe a cat curled up in your lap is for you. With their quiet personalities and their wild ones, cats have made great companions since ancient times. Known as the wise ones, cats love to not only play and lounge around but love to share and bask in your love and affection.  Whether they become indoor or outdoor cats a few nice toys to play with and lots of treats, you will both be purring in no time.

City living.

With a living in an apartment or condo you do sometimes limit yourself to which pet you can have. Both cats and small breed dogs are great for densely populated areas. What’s best? Only can that be answered after you’ve analyzed what suits you best.  It does come down to what animal you fall in love with. All pets need all your attention. You can be active and not have time for a dog and choose to have a cat or you could be a homebody and have a huge dog that you adore rule your home unless you pay for dog training which could become expensive. The wonderful thing is that you have so many choices. So the question is which is better a pet dog or a pet cat?

Great tips! If I had a home with a yard, I would have both cats and dogs, but right now we live in an apartment ,and I just don;t feel it is fair to have a dog in here. Plus, I am a huge cat lover! So right now, we are sticking with our kitty, but plan to get a dog one day!

We have 3 cats in a townhouse we rent. We are allowed dogs, but since we don’t have our own backyard we feel it wouldnt be fair to the dog that it had to be on a leash at all times outside. We plan to get a dog someday whenw e have our own house with a big backyard for a dog to run around in!

We’ve had a variety of pets from gerbils to geese to chickens to cats and dogs, and they do fill the need for companionship and humor. This is a good primer for those who might be contemplating getting a pet!
