Seeing your pet on a daily basis can make minor and major problems less visible to the pet owner. Changes in your dog’s weight, characteristics and behaviour can become less obvious when you see and care for your pet each day.

Professional vets will be able to immediately identify any areas of abnormality when reviewing your pet’s health. Your vet should have a record of your pets past health from previous visits – your vet is likely to compare new notes with previous notes to highlight any areas of dramatic change.

By having a regular check-up with your vet, you can be sure that your pet’s vaccinations are up to date. Yearly vaccinations are important for disease prevention in most animals. Most house animals such as cats and dogs will venture outdoors on a regular basis – this puts them at risk of picking up dangerous diseases that can have a massive effect on their health.

Your vet will give your pet up-to-date vaccinations if required ensuring that the risk of disease is kept at a minimum.

  • Ears

Your pet’s teeth and gums must also be checked on a regular basis, this is something your vet will do on a routine check-up. Gum disease is a common occurrence in both cats and dogs and can have a hug detrimental impact on their lives if the problem is not caught and solved early.

Your vet will highlight whether dental cleaning is required for your pet – this may eliminate bigger problems in the future.

Age

Whether your pet is old or young, your vet will evaluate your pet’s health based on the age of the animal. If your pet’s health does not appear normal for their age – further tests and checks may be required.

I couldn’t agree more, especially when they get older. Weight in particular can tell you a lot. But you are the best judge of kitty’s health. If something seems off, see your vet!
