I never really thought of Jimmy Dean as anything other than a breakfast company.  I knew they made sausages and breakfast sandwiches but I thought that was it.  Jimmy Dean also makes Sausage Crumbles, available in Turkey, Original Pork, and Hot and Spicy flavors. These Sausage Crumbles are full flavor, fully cooked and make a great addition to a wide variety of recipes.

Jimmy Dean Sausage Crumble Chili Recipe

I decided I was going try to make a chili with these Jimmy Dean Sausage Crumbles.  At first I couldn’t find these in Walmart, Tops or Wegmans – but I was looking in the frozen food section near the breakfast stuff.  Turns out I needed to look in the refrigerated cases by the bacon and italian sausages.   I had wanted to try the Hot and Spicy flavor, but since none of my local stores had it in stock at the time, I got two bags of the Original Pork.   The chili came out surprisingly good, and since I didn’t have to wait for the meat to thaw and then brown it up, the chili was ready fast!

Jimmy Dean Chili Ingredients

For this chili I used:

  • 1 small can of chopped green chilis
  • 2 cans of diced tomatoes (you can use whatever kind you prefer, I used one can chili style, and one roasted garlic and onion flavor)
  • 1 Can of tomato sauce
  • 1 Can of crushed tomatoes
  • 1 Can of chili beans
  • 2 Cans of kidney beans
  • 1/2 of a large red onion
  • 2 Bags of Jimmy Dean Sausage Crumbles
  • 1 packet of Tex Mex Chili seasoning
  • 1 TBS minced Garlic (not pictured)

First I added all the canned ingredients and the seasoning mix to a large pot and set the burner to a medium heat.

Adding Onions to Chili

While that was heating up, I added in the garlic and diced up the onion and added that to the pot.

Adding Crumbles to Chili

Next I opened both bags of Jimmy Dean Sausage Crumbles and added them to the mix.

Since the crumbles were already cooked, I just had to heat them.  I could have heated them separately in a pan, or in the microwave, but since the chili was already heating up while I was dicing up the onions I was able to add the crumbles right to the mix.   I just stirred occasionally while it was heating to make sure that all the ingredients were being mixed together.

Chili Done in Pot and Bowl.I had dinner on the table in less than 30 minutes!

We usually use ground beef in our chili, so I wasn’t sure if I was going to like it with the Jimmy Dean Sausage Crumbles, but it turned out delicious!  I definitely want to try the Hot and Spicy crumbles because I think it would give the chili that extra kick!

Have you tried the Jimmy Dean Sausage Crumbles Yet? If so, let me know what you thought!  If you haven’t tried them yet, what dish do you think you could make with them?

I have used Jimmy Dean Crumbles with eggs and on the side with pancakes. They are quite delicious. I’m interested in this chili recipe as an alternative to the beef one I have always used.

I never thought of putting sausage in chili, I have made with ground beef, pork chicken or cut up left over roast and it was good, but I now will try with the sausage, I love that this sausage is already cooked and I use it in scrambled eggs, with cheese and it gets hot with the eggs, I love the convenience factor of using the Jimmy Dean Sausage Crumbles.

Thanks for this review. I had NO idea something like this was available. I’m sure it’s there in the aisle that I peruse every time I’m at the store but since I haven’t been LOOKING for it, I haven’t seen it. This is great. It’s going to make breakfast casserole a whole lot easier!

That sounds delicious. I love Jimmy Dean sausage and always use it to make sausage gravy– had no idea they were selling it already browned and crumbled; this will make it much quicker to get breakfast on the table. Thanks for sharing this.

Using ready to go sausage crumbles in chili was a great idea. I might have to try that. Sausage crumbles would be good to use in a egg scramble too. I could also see it in spaghetti as alternative to beef.

I’ve used Jimmy Dean products for a long time. We enjoy the sausage and egg sandwiches very much. Whenever I have coupons for these I buy as many as I can fit in my freezer. I have used the Hot and Spicy Crumbles in tacos instead of beef or chicken. They were a big hit in our family and I will be doing this again soon.

Tis recipes gives me some good ideas, although I think I will substitute organic, free-range turkey in place of the sausage, and add a bit of turmeric, cumin & cilantro.
