Having done some other reviews for Chewy, they wanted to know if I wanted to review Nature’s Variety Instinct Raw Boost Minis Duck Formula Freeze-Dried Cat Treats – and of course, I jumped at the chance! The agreed to send one bag for free so that I could have my cats try it out!

Key Benefits

  • All-natural, pure raw – it’s what cats crave
  • It does not contain: Wheat, corn, soy, grain, gluten, by-product meals, artificial colors, flavors or preservatives.
  • 100% freeze-dried raw ingredients
  • Only 2 calories per piece
  • Made in the United States.  I really liked this part since so many pet foods these days come from overseas.

Ingredients

Duck (Including Ground Duck Bone), Turkey, Turkey Liver, Turkey Heart, Pumpkinseeds, Apples, Carrots, Butternut Squash, Ground Flaxseed, Montmorillonite Clay, Broccoli, Lettuce, Spinach, Dried Kelp, Apple Cider Vinegar, Parsley, Honey, Salmon Oil, Mixed Tocopherols, Olive Oil, Rosemary Extract, Blueberries, Alfalfa Sprouts, Persimmons, Inulin, Rosemary, Sage, Clove

I didn’t know what Montmorillonite Clay was, so I looked it up.  Thankfully the Nature’s Variety website had a glossary of ingredients.  It says that Montmorillonite is a natural clay that we source from deposits in southern Utah that is approved by AAFCO for use as an anticaking processing aid. We have used this same natural source for many years.   A google search proved the use of Montmorillonite Clay is a hotly debated topic among pet parents.  Since I’m only giving my cats this as an occasional treat, I am not really worried about it.

I also did not know what Mixed Tocopherols were. Again I checked the glossary on the Nature’s Variety Website. Tocopherols are a mixture of vitamin E isomers. When mixed with rosemary and citric acid, they provide a potent natural preservative, which also supplies a small amount of the benefits of dietary vitamin E.

As you will see in the video, all three cats loved the treats! I am happy that they are only 2 calories a piece, and since they are only given treats on occasion, I don’t have to worry about the cats being overfed.

Make sure you check out all the other great Nature’s Variety products that they have at chewy.com!
