A rare shot of both kitties sleeping together. Lately they pretty much just tolerate each other. They constantly fight over who’s gets to be in the bedroom. For the longest time Harley “owned” our bed, and Jewel would sleep in her bed next to our bed or in our bedroom window. Jewel “owned” the couch and recliner in the living room. There was no fighting, that’s just the way it was. Lately its a free for all. And by that I mean hissing fur flying brawl. We are having a rare late summer heat wave so it has been really hot so I don’t know if it is just irritating them or what. We have also had a field mouse get into our apartment twice that we know of this summer which totally freaked both cats out. Not like they caught it or anything. For now, Jewel rules the roost. She has front claws and Harley doesn’t. Harley weighs double what Jewel does but he doesn’t really use it to his advantage.
She actually fought him so bad one day his ear was bleeding (nothing serious, more like a scratch). Luckily I had pet first aid antiseptic on hand so we just washed it out. Jewel must have felt bad because she hid for a whole day and when she came out she just licked Harley’s face and walked away. They still play fight like normal though. When they are play fighting you can totally tell the difference. Their ears are flat against their head when it is a real fight. Play fighting they stop and chase each other or will bat toy mice or balls around in between rolling around. They still do have their endearing moments like when one has a hairball other cat will lick the coughing one. Or one of the cats will run back and forth between us and the hairball coughing cat as if to say “do something”. If one cat sneezes the other will run over and clean its face for them. I do on occasion find both cats sleeping on our bed with us if I wake up in the middle of the night. My guess is that Harley waits for Jewel to fall asleep then comes up.
