sweatshield undershirts logoMe, Him and the Cats received a review copy or a preview of a product, service, or topic mentioned in this post.

After my review of Patchuli Rosewood 100% Natural Deodorant , you know I have an issue with sweating. When I saw that sweatshieldundershirt.com was looking for bloggers to review, for free,  their sweat-proof undershirts I knew I wanted to give them a try.  They sent me a ladies scoop neck undershirt in size small for review purposes.

When I first put the shirt on, it felt a little weird. The shirt was very thin all over, except the underarm area.  It was extra thick there to absorb the sweat before it reaches your regular shirt.  You couldn’t wear this shirt without something over top, because it is so thin ie: see=through.  Also, the scoop neck was so low, I had to change to a different style bra. As you can see in my photos, the sleeves of the undershirt, are longer than my T-shirt,  but i didn’t really mind, since I was also using the undershirt to cover the skin that a very deep V-neck was revealing.

The undershirt sleeves are longer than most of my T-shirt sleeves.

I thought the extra thickness in the armpit area would bother me, but after a little while, I didn’t even notice it anymore.  These undershirts are great for anyone who has excessive sweating, and doesn’t want to ruin their clothes. The greatness does come with a price, the women’s shirt I reviewed retails for $54.99 (as do all the men’s styles as well).  As someone who wears Jeans and T-shirts to work every day, I think this is expensive just for one undershirt.  I could see people who have to wear a more professional attire buying these undershirts though, because it would save all their dressier clothes from sweat and deodorant stains.

I will say, these shirts WORK! At the end of the day I was pleased that not once, did my T-shirt get wet!  My undershirt had absorbed any wetness and prevented it from absorbing into my shirt.  The Sweatshield Undershirt also stayed in place all day, and since it was so smooth, my T-shirt didn’t bunch up or snag on the undershirt as I was moving around

Sweat Shield Undershirts offers a  150% guaranteed to work, and if you feel as though they do not help you stay dry, then they will refund your money under their 30-day money back guarantee policy with no questions asked.

I received one or more of the products mentioned above for free using Tomoson.com. Regardless, I only recommend products or services I use personally and believe will be good for my readers.

As an excessive sweater, I too looked forward to receiving my t-shirt. He is my 2 cents. Yes this shirt works in containing the sweat from the armpit area. But here are some words of caution. The thin material the rest of the shirt is made from fits very tightly. So I suggest you order the next size up.
Now with respect to customer service, don’t expect too much. I wanted to exchange my Large Tshirt for an Extra Large. Tim Shaw told me he had no problem with that. He would refund my money as soon as I provided him with a shipping tracking number. He provided me with an address to which I needed to return the shirt. It has to be returned to China, and the address I was provided wasn’t clear and I never did get an answer from Tim clarifing this return address. Now the next thing is you have to ship this Tshirt back to China. I don’t know what shipping costs are in the US, but for $20 I could ship it airmail but tracking numbers aren’t provided unless I ship it priority which would cost me $70. So now I am stuck with a Tshirt that would cost me more to return than it would take to buy a new one so I will keep the shirt and wear it (as uncomfortable as it is) until my Thompson Tees arrive. Now that organization has true customer service.

Hmm, were they going to reimburse you the cost of shipping once they received the shirt back? I know they offer the 150% money back guarantee, but i don’t see anything about return shipping costs on the website. Let me know if you ever get a clear answer from SweatShield!

My shirt wasn’t too tight, but i did think it was too long in the sleeves.

This shirt is made in China and knocked off Thompson Tee’s patent pending Hydro-Shield Technology, which IS made in America, supports fair and ethical treatment of garment workers and environmental regulation NOT found in China… your support of this product jeopardizes the American economy and the American worker.

I have never heard of Thompson Tee, although admittedly, I wasn’t actively looking for sweat proof shirts. SweatShield offered to send me their product, and having never heard of this type of product before, I was intrigued. I will look into Thompson Tee for sure!

I’m in the same bind. I ordered the five-pack, thinking to save money overall ($100 for 5), only to discover that the structure of the shirts is now different from the one I ordered 3 years ago. The padding under the arm is much thicker, and has plastic in it that makes a crinkly sound every time I move. I was feeling good about the website’s reassurances of “hassle free returns”, but haven’t received any response to my emails to customer service for the past 2 days (despite the site’s “guarantee” that someone will respond within 12 hours), so finally sent an email directly to Tim Shaw this morning. Now I read from a previous poster that the shirts have to be returned to China?! Are you kidding me? I am so disappointed. Helpful to learn about Thompson Tee, though. I didn’t realize i was ordering from China in the first place, or I never would have done it. Depressing. I wish there were some way I could warn others about this terrible customer service.

I just emailed the company through Tomoson (the company that helps match bloggers and companies up for reviews) and asked them to come visit this page and address everyone’s concerns, or at least provide me with the exact return policy (including how/where to send returns). I’m hoping they respond, and at least try to clear the air, but if they don’t at least we will all know to continue to avoid this brand. I do appreciate you all commenting, because everyone is going to have different experiences and my readers deserve to know what other peoples experiences are!

Note that the company Tomoson (blogger matching company) should not be confused with Thompson Tees, which is mentioned in my comment. Thompson Tee has an excellent product and even better customer service.

Canadian Customers of Sweatshield undershirts beware.

As a follow up to this comment, I just received an invoice from the shipping company for an addition $15.43 for my purchase of the Sweatshield undershirt. $5.43 for Canadian duty and taxes and $10 for processing. I should have known that these charges would come, but it would have been nice to have been reminded about this possibility by the Sweatshield website.

    Dear Bill and Sharon

Thank you very much for your feedback and we apologize for any convenience caused. Firstly Susan we did respond to your email today when we saw it and clearly we did not recieve your email to our service address for some reason. Correct me if I am wrong but we did offer to return your goods with a 150% refund. Is that correct (that was before I saw these comments meaning we didnt offer to do that just because of this comment).

Over the years I have come to realise that what we sell is not a commodity but a solution to a problem that is very painful for a lot of people and we try to do that at the best possible price. This week I received the below email from a client which both humbles and thrills me and reminds me of exactly why we do this:

“Sweatshield shirts are amazing. I have suffered from excessive underarm sweating for many years. It’s had a negative impact on my confidence as I was always very self conscious about having very noticeable wet marks on my shirts and I limited myself to white or black shirts as they made it less noticeable even though I desperately wanted to wear colours that suited me and reflected who I was. I knew that coloured shirts made my problem more obvious. I lived my life forever wearing jackets to hide it or running to mens rooms on quite floors of the building to try and dry the fabric and hoping nobody would come in to the facilities and think I was some sort of freak. Then, I found this website and these shirts. I just cannot tell what these simple yet wonderfully effective garments have done for me. I buy clothing I want to buy now that I will look as they should with no big dark wet patches. I am confident to go on stage as a hobby I longed to get into was community acting but stage lights and excessive perspiration don’t go together, especially when you’re not picking your costume! Now I can step onto the stage and enjoy my hobby safe in the knowledge that Sweatshield keeps me looking the part. I can’t thank you enough for this amazing product. This is my second order now, as I’ve been using them a while, and I can’t find the words to praise them properly”

In order to deliver the best solution at the best price we need to operate the business the way we do. Do things always go as planned: No. Are mistakes made: Yes. Are there breakdowns in communication as has happened here: Yes. Do we apologize for these imperfections: Absolutely. Can we please all people all the time: No one can. Will we continue to improve the lives of our customers: Absolutely.

Sweatshield Undershirts are designed to be form fitting so that they can be worn under any garment. They are quite different from any other Sweat Proof Undershirt in this regard as most are somewhat baggy t shirt type designs that sit very poorly under T shirts, Shirts and Polo Shirts and I do apologize if the size was not right for you. People buy our undershirts precisely because they dont like the fit of Thompson Tee (and I am sure vice versa).

Most top end modern undershirts are made from the same fabric as Sweatshield Undershirts for comfort and because outer fabrics “glide” over micromodal fabric much better than cotton (refer to Tommy John for example).

In essence you have purchased an undershirt from us and you dont like it. You return it to us and we refund 150% of the purchase price which alsso recovers return shipping. We are refunding you entirely for the purchase and for a shirt that has been worn and is unusable. Thats a pretty good deal by any standards.

We do state very clearly on our website that customs duties are payable in Canada and that we are not responsible for paying those. Clearly we cannot be responsible for a countries import duties and we clearly state that.

Bill i do find your behaviour disconcerting to be honest. You have purchased an undershirt from us which we have offered to return the cost of in full including return shipping (in fact we asked you to try out the undershirt and see if you liked it first with the intention of allowing you to keep it for free but sadly you didn’t give us any chance to show you what we are about) and now you post all over the internet at every available opportunity about our bad service. I truly do not understand your approach. You gave us no chance to allow us to give you any service as we have addressed on the other places you have posted your comments around the internet.

I wish you all the very best with your purchase of the Thompson Tees and although very different in terms of fit and functionality I have read and heard very positive things about them.

    Regards

    Tim Shaw

    PS: Another email received today:

“These shirts changed my life, now colors other than black and dark blue are an option.. Even a gray garment shows no marks due to perspiration. 100 % recommend them, tried many other things, these are the only practical product that never fails. The money back guarantee supports the quality, try one and see for yourself”!

Mr. Knockoff (Shaw) – please explain how the “functionality” of your knock off differs from the Thompson Tee?

Amazing how you fling testimonials around the web like they’re a result of something you created. You wouldn’t have those testimonials if you didn’t knock off Thompson Tee! I tried your product before and it didn’t work – a piece of junk with false claims. Then I found the Thompson Tee and it actually worked. All of sudden your product, flawed and inferior for years (since 2008), now comes with the same design as the Thompson Tee and you go about claiming credit for it??? – if you have children, I feel bad for them – it’s a shame their father is a knock off artist who exploits cheap (and probably illegal) labor.

I spoke to the folks at Thompson Tee and they are well aware of your tactics. I offered to pay their legal fees in shutting you down in the U.S. once their patent is approved. They said they are planning to make a form fitting micro modal shirt in the US and offer it at the same price as their original tee (or should I say “THE ORIGINAL” sweatproof tee). So either by market forces or legal forces, your time in the U.S. is limited. You scumbag!

Sweatshield and Thompson are 2 completely different products. Thompson Tee are made of Cotton and are not a good fit when worn under a t shirt or polo shirt…The Thompson Tee is basically an ill fitting baggy t shirt which is exactly the problem that Sweatshield Undershirts were designed to counter with their tailored form fit.

The feedback I have received is that Thompson Tees turn yellow very quickly and that they lose their shape around the neck due to the cotton fabric that they use. Micro modal on the other hand tends to hold its shape and colour much better and allows for a closer and more comfortable fit as well as absorbing moisture 50% better than cotton.

It is not possible to manufacture micromodal undershirts in the USA and sell them at the same cost as cotton undershirts. Micromodal fabric is a far superior fabric for undershirts and underwear and is known as a premium item which is reflected in the pricing across all brands offering micromodal products in the USA.

We wish yourself and Thompson Tee all the very best with your endeavours.

        Warm regards

Clearly stated on the Shipping section of our website:

    Customs Duties

Any payable customs duties upon delivery are the responsibility of the purchaser. Customs duties are not the responsibility of Sweatshield Undershirts.

Packages to the United States, Australia and United Kingdom do not incur customs duties. Canadian shipments may incur customs duties depending on which state the purchaser resides in.

Customs duties are variable from country to country and state to state and we do not have the resources or country knowledge to advise what customs duties may be payable for your country. We will be unable to answer any questions on this matter.

For the record Tim, I know your shirts work and have indicated that in every review I have done. There is no question on that.

And I respect you for stepping forward and defending yourself. However, we need to clarify a few things from your post.

In our Email communications, you graciously offered to refund my money so I could purchase the next available size, but you also made it clear that return shipping was at my expense.

And yes, you suggested I keep the first shirt and try it out. You indicated in your Email that “If you like it and it works I can then send a 5 pack at a discount”. I did try it, and as I indicated, it worked well, but was uncomfortably tight. So I replied to your Email and asked what kind of discount you had in mind on a 5 pack and your reply was “These are on sale at the moment for $99.99 reduced from 109.99”.

Tim, with that statement, I felt your “intentions” were very clear. You cannot claim that you were unaware of the context of my request at that moment, because all our previous Email communications were attached. All you had to do was scroll down.

So I did give you a chance to show what you are about, but none of what you wrote here on this blog was ever communicated to me.

So forgive me if I feel slighted and compelled to share my frustrations with other hyperhydrosis sufferers.

Hi Bill – GOOD FOR YOU IN STANDING UP FOR YOURSELF! The ONLY reason Tim Shaw’s shirts work is because he knocked off Thompson Tee. I’m sorry you have to defend yourself from this scumbag!! What a jerk! No respectable company would treat their customers like this.

After speaking with the president of the company I learned it is possible to send the package back to China, and how – by USPS with tracking. That is not cheap, but the cost is more than offset by the 150% refund for anyone (like me) who has made a significant order. When I made my first posting I was freaked out because nobody from customer service had answered my emails, but since then Tim Shaw contacted me and let me know there’s some sort of technical problem with the service email, so I needn’t have panicked. If you run into the same problem with the service email, don’t hesitate to contact Tim Shaw directly, as he will answer promptly and try to work things out for you.

    Dear Percy

From yet another customer whose life we have changed (received today):

“I heard about Sweatshield Undershirts from a movie star that said that this was his secret weapon on set and on movie shoots. After I purchased the sirts, I discovered that I loved how soft they felt on my skin. There is also spandex in the Sweatshield shirts which I love since it hugs my body without the excess bunching that plagues traditional undershirts. The underarm shield is very soft and thin; you will hardly know that it is there at all. This is VERY important because competitor products have a large pad as its underarm shield which is uncomfortable and once wet felt like a diaper. Most importantly there are NO underarm marks on my shirts!!!! I can wear light merino sweaters, fitted t shirts, and any color dress shirt that I would like. I can raise my hands over my head, reach the top shelf at work, or take off my jacket while on a date without fear. I love the product so much that I have at LEAST 10 shirts and have told numerous friends and colleagues. My only regret is that I didn’t know about the product years earlier”

Sweatshield and Thompson are 2 completely different products. Thompson Tee are made of Cotton and are not a good fit when worn under a t shirt or polo shirt…It is much like wearing a baggy t shirt which is exactly the problem that Sweatshield Undershirts were designed to counter with their tailored form fit. For some reason the only shirts I sweat in are my work shirts. My work shirts are made of 50/50 polyester and cotton. I wore a sweatshield shirt under my work shirt and my underarms still sweated. Then I tried the sweatshield shirt underneath an undershirt with my work shirt. My underarms still sweated. I take a shower before going to work and I wear antiperspirant. I guess it’s the blend of my shirts because I don’t have this problem with anything else I wear. However, it didn’t work for me.
Tim Shaw did provide me with a return address. However, this address is in China. How shady does that seem?

I am not a heavy sweater but, I use to sweat through the armpits of my work shirt because of the material. I tried these sweat guard shirts and it did absolutely noting for me. I was sweating just as much if not more with the shirt. I didn’t bother to return it because of the hassle. I just use them from time to time as an undershirt.
