So Sunday morning we went down stairs and looked out the window to see how the tomato and strawberry plants were doing. Tony eventually opened the door to get a better look at something and I didn’t think much of it. I climbed into the recliner and was checking facebook from my iPad. Tony then said, “Did you look at your strawberries?”. Before I could get up to look he said, ” There is a bird in your strawberry planter!”.
We didn’t want to scare the baby, so we stayed inside. It gave me the perfect opportunity to start playing with the zoom on my new camera! We could hear a bird frantically chirping, so we knew it had to be its momma looking for him.
Our view from inside |
Oliver kept coming to see what all the noise outside was about. Momma bird was getting REALLY loud! |
Momma bird running all over the front lawn, searching for her baby!
The baby birds right wing was sticking up funny but eventually as momma got closer to him he was able to fluff his feathers and it laid normal. He then started letting out the tiniest little chirps that melted my heart. After about 45 minutes mom finally landed on the steps and began looking on the wrong side so the baby jumped out of the planter on to the steps! She turned and looked at him as if to say “Where have you been?” because he jumped back in the planter for a second and then jumped back out. She seemed to give him a once over to make sure he was OK, and then they flew up into the tree together!
We think he might have fallen out of the tree, maybe when she went to get breakfast for him, and he either happened to land in the planter, or decided to hide in it since it kept him safe from the squirrels. I was surprised he was able to make it back up in the tree because he was so tiny and fluffy looking! I have no idea what we would have done had his mom not found him!
That is such an awesome story!!!
