When Did We Get Old?

Last night we attended a surprise 30th birthday party for my friend, and college roommate.   We spent the night catching up and talking about how we are starting to realize how old we are getting.  All of us are settling down, getting married having kids moving into careers rather than jobs etc.  We we  were joking how we now go to bed at the same time we used to start getting ready to go out!

We went to college in Buffalo where the bars are open until 4am, and a few of the food places are open till 5 or 6am on saturday and sunday mornings.  We would only start getting ready to go out around 10 or 11 then we would head to a house party (or 2 ) for a while before heading downtown.

Now by 11 we are all in bed and our alcohol tolerance is nothing like it used to be.  We used to be able to drink all night and get up for a 9 am class like it was nothing.  Now that we are all right around 30, after  two or three drinks and we just want to go home and go to bed.

Tony and I ended up leaving the party at 11pm, which meant we didn’t get home until 1am!  Tony got up around 7:30 to feed the cats and when I went downstairs around 9 he was sound sleep on the couch.  I didn’t sleep very well last night because I kept getting hot, and cold.  Plus having two cats trying to lay on my all night wasn’t helping.  Tonight is going to be another late night because we are going to the Buffalo Sabres game later tonight that starts at 7:30.  It takes about an hour and a half to get home after the game.  I’m going to certainly be dragging ass tomorrow at work!

That sounds sooo familiar! I’m too close to 30 myself 😉 And I feel like that once in a while too, though I guess I got so old that I don’t go out as much as I used to! And I know the cats’ thing, I have only one and I guess that’s sometimes a blessing, lol. Sounds that you had fun, though! 🙂

LOL You are so NOT old! Age is all about how you feel anyway and not a number! Some people are “old” at 25 others are “young” at 90.

However, what you are speaking of is stages of life. I would say that you and your friends are in this stage of your life because it aligns with your life goals and I’m sure you are very happy.

I know of a few men in their late 40’s and early 50’s who never got out of their 20’s lifestyle and they are not happy.

Friends of mine were talking at a dinner party the other day and we were remembering the fun we had in our 20’s and 30’s and yet we all agreed, as much fun as that was, we would not find it fun to do today.

Real joy in life is all about being joyful in the life you are creating right now.

I, for one, am happy with all the fun night life I had in my 20’s and 30’s and am equally happy with all I did in my 40’s and now at 50, love this stage of my life, too.

My 83 year old parents still do whatever they want and are very happy. They are a very “young” 83.

It isn’t what you do, per se. It is loving what you do that brings you joy in this moment of your life.

    🙂

Thanks Kathy! I guess it was more so just the realization that we were grown ups with responsibilities. We were saying how if we could go back to college and do it over, we wouldn’t because it was great how it was, although it would be great to have the energy of a 20 year old with no responsibilities again!

Your kiddin’ me right? 30 is OLD!?! I wish I was 30 & someday you’ll wish the same my friend! Live life to the fullest while you can, and you’re as old as you feel, and if you’re feeling old you need to get out of that funk and look at someone in their 50’s or even 60’s… oh hell, check someone who is 40 even, and say to yourself… dam I am young and I can handle this and then some. Maybe you’re hanging out with people who are too young for you or a place you’re going too is. Try places more of your liking, more of your era! Believe me you’ll feel your ol’ teenage self in no time. I promise… or I’ll ground your dumb butt! ~hehehehe~ Bet you haven’t heard that in a long time. Why don’t you come over and play Monday’s Music Moves Me. Our theme today is songs your Mama played when you were little. That ought to make you feel young today! 🙂 Have a great week.
