Buffalo Skyline7 Reasons to Move to Buffalo

Set along the shores of Lake Erie, Buffalo is the largest city in western New York and the second-most populous behind only NYC, with an estimated population of more than 261,000. In the 20th century, it was considered to be the industrial capital, but today it’s considered by many to be a great place to live.

This city boasts an excellent livability score, high amenities rating, safe neighborhoods, good schools, and outstanding employment opportunities. If you are looking at Buffalo real estate and considering a move, those are just a few of the reasons to take the leap. You’ll find many more reasons why Buffalo might be the ideal city for you and your family, including the following.

Low Cost of Living

The cost of living in Buffalo is 15% lower than the national average, making it extremely affordable. There are many factors when calculating the cost of living in a city, such as groceries, gas, health care costs, goods and services, and the cost of housing. Home prices vary anywhere from the low $50,000s to high $600,000s, with many opportunities for nearly every budget.

Depending on the neighborhood you choose, there are some great schools with low student-to-teacher ratios and a high percentage of graduates. Particularly outstanding schools are Leonardo Di Vinci High School and Middle Early College High School.

Parks and Recreation

One of the city’s missions is to provide a safe and fun place for children and residents while also preserving the natural urban forest. Buffalo is home to more than 180 parks, seven recreation centers, 12 public pools, and four ice rinks. Especially notable is Frederick Law Olmsted Historic Park. This park offers beautiful grounds as the former estate of Olmsted, one of the country’s premier landscape designers, best known as the architect of New York’s Central Park.

Buffalo’s historic economy was based on railroad commerce, automobile production, and Great Lakes shipping. Today, the economy is diversified, creating more potential for growth and opportunity along with desirable jobs.

You have built a pretty strong case for Buffalo, Diane! We have cousins living there. In fact, during our last trip to Canada, we planned to visit New York via Buffalo, but we did not have enough time and ended up spending our whole vacation in Toronto and around it. I enjoyed your post – I love to travel and have practically every place I read about on my wish list! Thank you!

I came up here for College and loved it so much I stayed – well now I am closer to Rochester, but we go back to Buffalo quite often. I have never been to Toronto, but it is on my list of places to visit!

It’s a really pretty place and one of my best friends are from Buffalo but that far north is just too cold for my taste LOL. I don’t know if I will ever be prepared for those rough winters. We have lived in Maryland and that’s about as far north I would live haha.

New York is on my travel bucket list! And now visiting Buffalo is too. It sounds like such a wonderful place to live and I would definitely consider moving to Buffalo if I ever find myself looking for a place to live in the US.
