It is estimated that in the U.S., 64 percent of men do not make plans in advance for a romantic Valentine’s Day with their sweethearts. So, ladies, it looks like it might be up to you to do the planning.  The average American spends $137.00 on Valentine’s Day but you don’t have to spend your whole family’s budget just to have a special day.  Here are some frugal ideas for this Valentine’s Day.

Since Valentine’s Day falls on a Friday this year, maybe you could get up a little early, and go to your favorite diner, or coffee shop for breakfast.  Or plan ahead, and have breakfast in bed! A special breakfast will be much more affordable than a fancy dinner! We usually stay home on Valentine’s Day night and go out to dinner the weekend before or after, when it is less crowded, and the prices aren’t as jacked-up.

If you are like us and want to avoid the crowd on Valentine’s Day, here are drinks, appetizers, entrees and desserts you could make at home with your honey!

If you want to keep on going with the frugal theme, you and your honey could go ice-skating at a nearby park.  Don’t know how to ice skate, or live in a place to warm to ice skate? How about mini golf?   Also, check your local paper to see if there are any local bands playing at bars, or cafés in your area. Sometimes you would really rather just stay home and have an evening of peace and quiet.

Are you a mom who is just craving some alone time?  Why not ask your husband to take the kids to the park or maybe a movie so you can relax in the bathtub!   After your relaxing bath, and the kids are in bed, you might be inclined to a little private time with your honey.  If you want to spice it up a little you could get a sexy costume from MrCostumes.com.

When it comes to gifts, a coupon book is always a good choice. You could each turn your “Honey Do” list into a coupon book.  Has he has been nagging you to clean out your closet, or organize the pantry? Are you nagging him to help with cooking or laundry?  You could also make coupons for movie nights, breakfast in bed, back rubs – anything you want! The best part is there are plenty of free templates on-line!
