In 1994 John and Carey Aron traveled back to Italy to understand exactly what it took to make the highest-quality and best-tasting pasta around. Then they added a fun twist: hand-crafted bronze dies to create more than 250 different pasta shapes! From cat paws to Christmas trees to college logos, they have a fun pasta shape for everyone!
I recently had a chance to try out some of their great pastas, for free, for review purposes.
I received:
- Chicken Noodle Soup
- Wintertime Chili
- Thanks A Million Pasta
- Zoo Animals
- Halloween Pasta
- Syracuse Orange Pasta Salad
- Pasta Nests | Spinach Basil Garlic Angel Hair
Since it has been getting really cold here lately, the first one I wanted to try was the Chicken Noodle Soup kit. The kit contained noodles, seasoning and a recipe. The noodles are shaped like chickens, which I think makes it really fun for kids, as well as adults! You just add 10 cups of water, one can of chicken + a can of peas and carrots, cook for 15 minutes and dinner is ready.
I was making this on my day off, so since I had a little extra time, instead of using canned chicken, I boiled about a pound of chicken breasts, shredded them, then added that and the seasoning to the 10 cups of water. Since neither of us like peas, I added corn instead, and then added about half a can of sliced carrots. I let that slowly simmer for a few hours, and then right before Tony got home from work I added in the noodles. We were both impressed how good it tasted. We had plenty of left overs for a few more meals since it was just the two of us. I feared that the noodles would get too mushy, but much to my surprised they didn’t.
Once the chicken noodle soup was all gone, I was eager to try the Wintertime Chili. The noodles are shaped like snowflakes and snowmen! The package had the seasoning as well as a recipe just like the Chicken Noodle Soup Kit.
We like a really thick, hearty chili, so added the following to the mix:
- big can of tomato sauce
- big can of crushed tomatoes
- small can of diced tomatoes with chili flavoring
- can of chili beans
- can of kidney beans
- 1lb ground beef
- 2 hot italian sausages (cut into slices)
This time I cooked the noodles separate, this way we could each add in as much noodles as we wanted. The chili had a little spice, but we like a lot of spice so we added a bit of chili powder and it was perfect!
I can’t wait to try all the other pastas they sent me!
I know some of you are concerned with the ingredients in your food. Pasta Shoppe pastas contain: Enriched durum wheat, water, all natural vegetable powders and egg whites are the main ingredients for most of the pasta. Their Collegiate Pasta does contain food coloring though to achieve the school colors! Please click here for all ingredients and nutritional info.
