Litter box odor is something I think all cat parents worry about.  You try different litters, different additives, different cleaning products but you always worry that it smells. Cats are very sensitive to odors, so I don’t like to use fragrant sprays or plugins near their litter box – plus they would only be masking the smell.  I was grateful when BasicConcepts offered to send me a 4 Pack of Bamboo Charcoal Air Purifying Bags for free in exchange for an honest review.

These Bamboo Charcoal bags are a great natural way to deodorize and absorb odors from the air. This bamboo charcoal bag removes moisture, bad odors, and pollutants from the air without adding any chemicals – it only uses the natural properties of bamboo charcoal. Air purifying bags made with natural bamboo charcoal are 10x more porous than regular charcoal – which means you get a more effective air freshener solution!   Bamboo charcoal has millions of tiny pores that can pull and break down odors, bacteria, chemicals, and moisture from the air like a magnetized sponge.

These bags are easy to place in your car, gym bag, or anywhere in your home. After about a month, you can reactivate your bamboo charcoal bag by placing it in sunlight for a couple of hours.  This will allow the bag to release all the odors that it has absorbed. With proper reactivation, the bags can last up to 2 years before they need replacement.  Each bag is a little bigger than my hand.

I really like that these bags have grommets so you could hang these bags if you wanted. I currently have all 4 bags in the room we keep the litter boxes in.  I put two near the opening of each litter box.  As you may already know if you have read our other posts, Harley is notorious for not doing a good job covering his business and sometimes we can smell the stink upstairs! We have been using the bamboo charcoal bags for a little over a week now and are pleased with the results so far. When you enter the litter box room we haven’t noticed any odor, except one time when Oliver had JUST urinated – and didn’t cover it because he heard me coming.  Oliver is very shy and doesn’t like letting us humans see him in the litter box. Once I scooped the litter, the odor was gone and it was back to smelling fresh in the room.

We have also been trying unscented litter, so it is nice to walk in the room and not smell anything. The room just smells…well…like nothing! We also haven’t been able to smell the litter box room from any other rooms – even when the litter boxes needed to be scooped –  which is a big improvement.

Something I really love about BasicConcepts is that they offer 24/7  customer support and a lifetime replacement.  Their customer service is USA based and if something is wrong with a bag you have purchased, they will send you a replacement bag at no cost, no questions asked!

  1. Takesumi LTD

Very helpful post. Thank you. The Takesumi we import from Japan comes from the bamboo groves of the master burners. Moso and Tiger bamboos are used for the production of sticks, blocks and powder. Take 竹 (bamboo) Sumi 炭 (coal).
