Black Friday Shopping for the Dog LoverAccording to the U.S. Humane Society, 47 percent, or nearly half of all of U.S. households own at least one dog. Chances are good that there is a dog lover on the holiday gift list of most Black Friday shoppers. And there is no shortage of Black Friday sale shoppers. Two in five adults in the U.S. will shop on Black Friday, about a quarter of whom will do so every year because it is a family tradition. That equates to a lot of people on the hunt for dog lover gifts. Here are five directions to explore when shopping for your pooch or dog-loving pal.

Pet Stores

Shop PetSmart for 50 percent off select dog toys, holiday apparel and festive collars during their Black Friday sale. Beds and holiday toy value packs in stocking-shaped packages are also half off. For the creative sorts, the Sunbeam Dog Treat Maker is $10 off during the sale.

Petco is having their own door-buster deals during the Black Friday weekend, including free dog antlers with any purchase while supplies last. They will also be offering 50 percent off Petco brand beds, dog coats and the treat bar Friday through Sunday. All brands of holiday-themed treats and apparel will also be 25 percent off Friday through Sunday.

Department Stores

Shoppers will also find plenty of pet-related deals at department stores like Macy’s, where you can score items such as women’s Scottie-print pajamas. Warm and cozy, these flannel PJs are perfect the dog lover on your list. For the little ones, a stuffed plush puppy would tuck perfectly under the tree.

Book Stores

This year Barnes & Noble is having a new event called Discovery Friday. Taking place a week before Black Friday, Discovery Friday gives shoppers a chance to take advantage of some unique one-day deals on books like “101 Dog Tricks” and “Chaser.” “101 Dog Tricks” is a step-by-step guide with color pictures that any dog lover can use to bond through trick training with their dog. “Chaser” is the story of the border collie who knows over a thousand words, which is more than any other non-human animal. Toy Stores

Little pet lovers often can’t indulge their desire like adults. For the smaller crowd, toys like these FurReal Friends Snuggimals at Toys R Us can keep gift givers on both parents’ and child’s good side. During the Black Friday sale, these cuddly toys that move their heads and tails when petted will be only $5 each with a qualifying purchase.

Online

For the dog lover interested in artistic works and inspiring stories, photo books about deaf dogs, rescued dogs of all breeds, pit bulls and puppy mill survivors are available from The Photo Book Projects. For Black Friday, the books are on sale starting from $19 each, and gift sets including three copies of any one book are available for even less. Posters and mugs are also available and on sale for the holidays.
