The creators of Sustainably Yours Natural Cat Litter wanted to create a litter that was more environmentally responsible but also performed better than ordinary natural cat litters. After years of experimentation, they came upon a unique solution based on corn and cassava, two sustainable and renewable crops. Cassava is a highly absorbent shrub native to South America.
After tweaking the formula a little they created a litter that has outstanding odor control and formed exceptionally firm clumps for easy scooping.
Three eventful years later, Sustainably Yours is now available in independent pet stores throughout the United States. The litter also has a distinct, light color that increases visibility and helps pet owners easily detect any abnormalities in their cat’s urine. Additionally, Sustainably Yours is chemical and fragrance-free, produces virtually zero dust and can be flushed!
A coworker had told me they had started using disposable litter boxes. They said at the end of the month they can just throw it out and use a new fresh, clean box. It is hard to clean our plastic litter boxes because over time they get so scratched up that the litter seems to just get embedded in the scratch. Plus, Oliver is very particular about which litter box he uses. For one, It can’t have any of Harley’s waste in it. Also, Oliver has to sniff around the entire box to ensure it smells ok before he will use it. I decided to give the disposable litter boxes a try a few months ago and Oliver seems to be less stressed about finding a clean litter box. The boxes I use are made from recycled paper and land-fill safe.
Luckily a delivery of new boxes arrived right around the time the Sustainably Yours Litter that I was set to review arrived! Oliver, who usually watches me clean all the litter boxes, watched me intently as I poured the new litter into a brand new litter box. He sniffed around, and then climbed in the box and was sniffing the bag of litter.
Oliver then proceeded to dig around some more in the box. Then he did something he has never done before. He rolled around in the litter box for about a minute. Based on some behavior I have observed, and what I have read, I believe Oliver was scent marking that box as “his”.
Usually, Harley and Oliver get along just fine, but lately, Harley has been guarding the litter boxes or following Oliver to a different litter box. This caused us to put even more litter boxes out. We had 5 litter boxes downstairs – now 6, plus we added a litter box to our master bathroom. So now there are PLENTY of clean options, and places for Oliver to get away from Harley to go to the bathroom. Between switching to disposable litter boxes, and adding additional boxes, Oliver seems so much happier.
For the first two days, nobody used the box with the Sustainably Yours in it. I added a thin layer of their usual clay litter on top and within hours the litter box was used. Usually, our cats take to new litters right away. This one looks and feels different so they may have been unsure that it was actually litter. I then added a thin layer of the Sustainably Yours to the other litter boxes so they could get used to the feel of it. They have no issues using any of the boxes now.
I can’t wait to get the litter box in the bathroom transitioned over to all Sustainably Yours so I can just flush the clumps in the toilet! We have a small garbage pail we keep downstairs that we use to go around and clean all the downstairs litter boxes with. I am loving that this litter is flushable – especially since New York is eliminating single-use plastic bags March 1st!
The Sustainably Yours Multi-Cat Plus litter clumps unbelievably tight. Something that I have not seen from other natural cat litters (and believe me, we have tried a bunch). You can see a demo of how tight the litter clumps in their Instagram story highlight!
The litter is very soft, and light, but unlike clay litters – there is NO dust!
Another thing I love about this brand is that they are doing their part to protect the planet by donating a portion of every purchase to help support the Rainforest Trust. This organization acquires acreage in threatened rainforests worldwide to protect and sustain natural habitats. Since 1988 they have rescued over 18 million acres! Besides partnering with Brazilian and U.S. animal shelters, Petfive Brands, (the parent company of Sustainably Yours) also donates to programs that help cat owners struggling with medical or financial issues.

My daughter has a cat and although we live in a house that has ample garden space, she often feels safer to use a little box. Even if the litter box is outside and the garden is at her disposal! It is great to know that their is a product out there that is sustainable.
that’s a great solution for many cat lovers. it provides a good solution for a lot of people and the best part is that it’s flushable and removes the odor from the litter.
This is a great product for cat lovers. I like that this brand is showing its responsibility towards our planet and its environment and supporting the Rainforest Trust as well. Thanks for this informative post, Diane.
