Knowing how much I like football, and good food, Red Pack Tomatoes sent me a care package to help me prepare for the Superbowl festivities!
The family-owned Red Gold company (which makes the Red Pack brand — www.redgold.com/redpack) has been around since the 1940s focused on growing in the Midwest where true seasons impact the flavor of tomatoes. The Midwest, while cold in the winter, has the perfect growing season for tomatoes, perfect angle of the sun, perfect temperatures — and even the winter is good for tomatoes, as it breaks up the soil for tiny root systems.
When the package arrived I couldn’t wait to see what was actually inside!
Inside was a big can each of crushed and diced tomatoes, as well as a pasta ladle,
can opener, pot holder, Red Pack refrigerator magnet and Red Pack Tomato recipes
Of course the first thing we made was chili! We like to make a lot at once, and then whatever doesn’t get eaten right away, we separate into meal sized containers and freeze for later. We don’t really have a specific recipe we follow, so it tastes a little different each time!
This time Tony used both the crushed and diced tomatoes we received, as well as lots of garlic and even a few Habanero peppers diced up (seeds removed). He also added about a pound of ground beef , a couple of spicy italian sausages sliced up, kidney beans and chili beans.
After we ladle chili into our bowls we top it of with some shredded cheddar cheese ! I like to have a slice or two of bread with my chili as well!
Chili isn’t the only thing you can make with Red Pack products! I also plan on making a homemade salsa for the Superbowl!
- 1 can Black Beans, drained, rinsed ( we use the store brand, or whatever is on sale)
- 1 can (14.5 oz) Red Pack Petite Diced Tomatoes with Green Chilies
- 1 can of corn (I like the sweet corn)
- 1/4 cup finely chopped red onion
- tsp. of minced garlic
- 1 tablespoon lime juice
- packet of salsa seasoning (usually you can find this in the produce section)
Then you just mix it all together and let it sit in the refrigerator for a few hours to get nice and cold, and enjoy with your favorite tortilla chips! We like Tostitos scoops!
Me, Him and the Cats received one or more of the products mentioned above for free for evaluation purposes. Regardless, all opinions expressed are still 100% my own. I love the recipe for the salsa–thanks!
Any work if this will be on shelves in the future or is this just a promotional care package?
